2018 EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
幹部
JOY YU
President
5th year, Commerce (International)
(Finance & International Business) An interesting fact about you? I've done the no sugar challenge and survived a month without sugar. If you could do one thing before Japanese immigration stopped you from coming to Japan ever again what would it be and why? Climb Mount Fuji & visit Fuji Q Highland (again) to ride on every single ride! \(≧▽≦)/ What makes NSA important to you? NSA has a vibe like no other society I have encountered. Everyone is super friendly, and it is thanks to NSA that I have made lots of amazing friends. I've also made Japanese friends, reunited with them in Japan during exchange & internship and I would not have such an incredible experience in Japan if I hadn't met them through NSA. In short, NSA has enriched a part of my life, and I hope to continue to make NSA a supportive environment for everyone. (ノ´ヮ`)ノ*: ・゚ |
JAMES BUTLER
Vice-President
5th year, Science (Molecular and Cell Biology)/Arts (Japanese)
An interesting fact about you? I'm the token white guy. If you could do one thing before Japanese immigration stopped you from coming to Japan ever again what would it be and why? I think I would try to eat all the different specialty ramen and desserts of each city :3 What makes NSA important to you? The opportunities you get to meet a wide variety of people and learning something new from them. It makes me really happy to see such a diverse group of people come together with a common interest. |
YUTA ITO
Secretary
1st year, Commerce/Media
(Public Relations and Advertising) An interesting fact about you? I am 5/8 Japanese. If you could do one thing before Japanese immigration stopped you from going to Japan, what would it be and why? I would walk from Shinjuku back to Oji at 1 am in the morning, stopping at every 7/11 along the way to buy cup noodles and a can of coffee. The peacefulness of the walk is one of the best memories I have from my last trip to Japan. What makes NSA important to you? NSA is like family to me. I initially joined because of my interest in Japanese culture and language but it was the friends I made that made me stay. Especially with the other execs, despite being a first-year sharing no courses with any of them I've fit in really well and it's been really great working with them. The large variety of events that we organise and run have been so much fun and my time at NSA has bolstered my love for all things Japanese. |
ANGELA LIU
Treasurer
4th year, Commerce (International)
An interesting fact about you? I have unlimited capacity for desserts. :3 If you could do one thing before Japanese immigration stopped you from going to Japan, what would it be and why? I would go and buy a lifetimes supply of Konbini puddings and crepes, although I dunno how that would work hmm... What makes NSA important to you? I've been involved in NSA since my very first year both as a regular member and exec and through this, ive gained so many great friends over the years. Without NSA, my uni experience definitely would not have been as enjoyable as it has been up till now so I'm extremely grateful for that and I'd like to continue to support NSA as the treasurer for 2018. |
SEAN HE
Events Coordinator3rd year, Engineering/Arts (Mechatronics)
An interesting fact about you? I've had ice cream almost every day for the past 6 months. If you could do one thing before Japanese immigration stopped you from going to Japan, what would it be and why? As much as I would like to say I'd go and see the sights or do something meaningful, my answer is probably spending all my time at an arcade playing games. What makes NSA important to you? NSA allowed me to meet people and gave me a reason to skip class (not that I really needed one....). |
IAIN SALVADOR
Media Coordinator
5th year, International Studies/Media (Communications and Journalism)
An interesting fact about you? I joined a traditional Japanese dance team for fun and we came 13th at a competition in Hokkaido. If you could do one thing before Japanese immigration stopped you from going to Japan, what would it be and why? I would participate in all of the summer festivals with my team for the month of August! What makes NSA important to you? NSA is a cool way for me to meet people who are interested in Japanese and to share my love of traditional and unique aspects of culture. It also let me continue to make friends despite being a hella old guy XD. |
RIKI WALMSLEY
Communications Officer2nd year, Science (Statistics)/Arts (Japanese)
An interesting fact about you? I like to bake (haven't had as much time recently cause of uni) and even have my own recipe for dorayaki (Japanese red-bean pancakes). If you could do one thing before Japanese immigration stopped you from going to Japan, what would it be and why? After seeing family and friends while taking plenty of photos, I would visit Ibaraki (a prefecture where I spent my 1 year exchange in high-school). Although it isn't as exciting as Tokyo or Kyoto, the mountains, rice fields and beaches of Ibaraki are so tranquil it makes me feel nostalgic and at peace. What makes NSA important to you? NSA has become such a special place for me simply because of the people in it. I have made many friends and formed amazing bonds so joining it was easily the best decision I've made at uni. |
YUNA SAITO
International Liaison
2nd year, Science (International)
(Mathematics) An interesting fact about you? I’ve never broken a bone before. If you could do one thing before Japanese immigration stopped you from going to Japan, what would it be and why? Eat ramen from tenkaippin because it is the best. What makes NSA important to you? I’ve made so many friends through NSA and NSA helps me to be much more social and have fun at their events. |
MANDY WONG
Sponsorship Director
3rd year, Commerce (Finance)/Arts (Japanese)
An interesting fact about you? I've never had a nosebleed in my life (yay) and I actually wanted to do French before Japanese came along. If you could do one thing before Japanese immigration stopped you from going to Japan, what would it be and why? I would visit the Studio Ghibli Museum and go around all of the Ghibli souvenir stores buying all of the merchandise. Why? Because Studio Ghibli is life. What makes NSA important to you? Through NSA I have been able to meet and connect with lots of amazing people who share the same interest and passion for Japanese culture. Although it took quite a while, I'm really glad I took the initiative to get more involved with NSA. |
JANE LAU
Language Workshop Coordinator
3rd year, Psychological Science
(Psychology) An interesting fact about you? For how inactive I am, I actually have a scuba diving license. If you could do one thing before Japanese immigration stopped you from going to Japan, what would it be and why? I would buy all the Gudetama stuff available because GUDETAMA IS LYF. What makes NSA important to you? If it wasn’t NSA, I probably wouldn’t have half as much fun in uni and wouldn’t be able to know that many friends that share my interests. Also, I wouldn’t have found my love to teach Japanese, and probably wouldn’t be going on exchange to Japan. |
JASON WONG
Arc Delegate
3rd year, Engineering (Hons.) (Mechatronics)/Computer Science
An interesting fact about you? I learned how to sing Japanese songs before I learned Japanese grammar. If you could do one thing before Japanese immigration stopped you from going to Japan, what would it be and why? If I could never go to Japan ever again, I'd go to my favourite ramen place in Harajuku before leaving. What makes NSA important to you? NSA has allowed me to meet new people and make new friends, I'm going to work my best to make NSA a better community where people can easily meet other like-minded people. |
